Sister Fanny Allen

“To care for the poor and sick of Vermont was the special charge given Fanny Allen by its founders– a more than three-hundred-year old Religious Community which now provides care for the poor and sick all over the world,” Sister Madeleine Bachand, R.H.S.J., administrator of the Fanny Allen Hospital (1983-1987).

Fanny Allen Corporation ensures the Catholic identity, heritage and values of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph (R.H.S.J.) remain on the Fanny Allen Campus of Fletcher Allen Health Care today, as well as continues R.H.S.J.’s mission in the community by supporting nonprofits that reflect the compassion of Christ in their service to the sick and poor. (See History for more information about the R.H.S.J. and the foundation of Fanny Allen Hospital).

Sister Irene Ducheneau, RHSJ and Fanny Allen Hospital administrator, established the Foundation in 1999 to continue the mission of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph by supporting nonprofit organizations in the community that reflect the compassion of Christ in their service to the sick and poor. Since 1999, the Fanny Allen Foundation has allocated over $3.5 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in Vermont that serve the sick and poor. To apply for a grant please review Funding Guidelines and Grant Process.

The Fanny Allen Corporation is sponsored by Covenant Health Systems in Tewksbury, MA.
